A shoulder prosthesis consists of a stem with a head which is implanted in the humerus. Third generation models allow a connection between both parts with an adapter that creates a wide range of adaptability. The surgeon is talking about a "hemiprosthesis" if a stem with a head is implanted. Additionally, if an artificial glenoid socket is used that is called "total shoulder". |
